Measurements

A Quick Guide Thru A Few Details.

Remember - Weight and age are not useful measurement guidelines.

Tape measures are inexpensive and indispensable. A soft plastic or fabric tape measure is ideal.

Chest

Under arms, around chest, using nipples as a guide line.

When measuring for a dress, be sure to know whether the bodice is adjustable (eg lace up) or fixed (eg zipper). That information will let you know how well it will fit and how much growing room you have. All Gemics dresses are lace-up.

In general terms, these are typical chest measurements:

6-12mths 18.5" - 20"

12-18mths 19.5" - 22"

18-3T 20" - 23"

Shoulder to Hem

Measured from the mid point of a shoulder, straight down to the hemline. A babydoll (a one piece dress) hemline should sit right at the top of the knee.

In general terms, these are typical shoulder-to-hem babydoll dress measurements:

6-12mths 12" - 15"

12-18mths 15" - 17"

18-3T 17"-21"

Inside Seam

From crotch, down the inside of leg, to the hem.

Girth Front and Back

Girth

Starting at the mid point of a shoulder, measure down the chest, thru legs and back up to the start. If your child is still in diapers, take this measurement with diapers on. This measurement is not typically needed for dresses. It is critical for fixed body suits such as our sequinned fun fashion jump suits. Arm lengths and leg lengths can be adjusted in such outfits, but the girth is fixed. As such, it becomes a critical measurement.
